There are many benefits of adding vitamin C to the skin. Let’s start from the beginning, when I first got into skincare, there were things that I wasn’t educated on. One of those things of course was how important Vitamin C serum is to my skincare routine and how it works.
There are many brands of serums out there but not all serums are created equally, which is something I have learned while trying different brands. Like anything skincare, it’s all about trial and error.
What is a Vitamin C serum?
A Vitamin C serum is a serum that is either liquid or gel that is packed with loads of vitamin C. This powerful product is used as part of a skincare routine and is loaded with amply amounts of antioxidant and anti-aging properties.
Vitamin C serum helps with the stabilizing of free radicals which then helps with collagen formation, which is needed to regenerate the skin and form new cells.
Consuming antioxidant-rich foods is beneficial to the body, however, there isn’t a guarantee that it will go to the skin. In order to ensure this happens, one much directly apply it to the skin.
The antioxidant-rich properties are beneficial as it helps with slowing the process of aging, while also protecting against UV damage and sun pollution.
Another important factor of adding Vitamin C to your routine is that it helps with dark spots, this is something for acne suffers, which was something I had suffered from.
Why should you use a Vitamin C serum?
Above you got a clear picture of what a Vitamin C serum is but why should you use it? The first thing is that it helps the skin to heal and form new cells.
Vitamin C does have properties that help to rebuild the skin after it has been stripped away by washing. I have found that the best time to add the serum is after toner as the serum adds the nutrients that are needed.
1. It hydrates the skin
Vitamin C serum is so hydrating to the skin. I enjoy a thorough skincare routine but do have a problem when my skin is too dry. Adding that needed moisture will make your skin feel and look better.
Not only that it is thought to have a more liquid consistency, which is a good thing. However, you do not want to overwhelm your skin and should take time to feel comfortable with the products.
2. It brightens the skin
One thing I have noticed about using a Vitamin C serum is that the skin is brighter and vibrant. It helps with the correction of dark spots while brightening the surrounding skin. These are the antioxidant properties working to regenerate and form new skin cells.
3. Helps fade hyperpigmentation and reduces redness of the skin
One of the best properties of adding Vitamin C serum to your skincare routine, it helps with protecting the skin against UV rays and air pollution. With that, these are damages that are caused by the environment and have dire consequences against the skin.
Hyperpigmentation tends to take the form of sunburn, dark spots, or age spots, Vitamin C serum has benefited users by reducing the formation of such skin problems. For people who suffer from redness, Vitamin C serum helps with inflammation, reducing redness.
4. Boost the production of collagen
Vitamin C has many benefits but the biggest one is that it helps with the production of collagen. Collagen is a protein that is responsible for healthy joints and skin elasticity, it can be found in the bones, muscles, and blood.
The skin is made up of two-thirds of collagen thus is one of the biggest reasons why Vitamin C is essential. It does prevent skin breakdown by causing the skin to break down dead skin cells and create new ones.
Hence people who incorporate Vitamin C as part of their skincare routine see greater improvement in their skin overall.
Product recommendation
This isn’t a paid ad for any company but I want to introduce a product to you, that is really good and you can add to your skincare routine. I have tried so many products since I starting using Vitamin C serums and they all have their own pros and cons.
At the moment I am currently using a Vitamin C serum called Biossance Squalane + 10 % dark spot serum. Firstly, this product is vegan, gluten-free, and cruelty-free. Vitamin C 10% is a potent antioxidant that visibly brightens and firms the skin without causing any irritation.
The product contains squalane. Squalene is a lipid produced by the cells of the skin, which declines over time. Squalene can also be found in olives, sugarcane, and rice bran, however, due to the fact that squalene is too unstable, it is hydrogenated and turns into more stable squalane.
Squalane is good for hydration, making the skin look more vibrant and healthier. Working together to enhance the skin.
When should you apply your serum?
The serum can be applied twice a day, one time in the morning and the next at night. When I do my skincare routine depending on where am going or what my routine is I tend to add the serum third or fourth.
For more info on a more in-depth skincare routine please check out my five-step skincare routine. Depending on your preference this is something you can do and adjust around your needs.
What is the biggest lesson?
The biggest takeaway is how important Vitamin C is not only to your diet but to your skin. As we get older one thing is for sure is that your skin will age and lose elasticity, part of reducing or slowing that down is to add a Vitamin C serum to your daily routine.
To reiterate the benefits of the anti-aging properties along with protection from UV rays and air pollution. All these factors if left unchecked does contribute greatly to the breakdown of the skin and overall deterioration.
