Skincare is everything, especially with women in their 20s. I came with this 5 step skincare routine to make your life easy.
As a twenty-something woman, I never understood the importance of a good skincare routine until now. I have had my fair share of misses and found what works for me. This 5 step skincare routine is easy to follow and can be used anytime.
If you are new to the beauty world, I have linked 7 Beauty products to splurge on.
My skincare routine has evolved from just washing my face, adding shea butter and call it a day. Now I am shopping around, doing research, trying new things to see what works or what doesn’t. I will tell you this, I am enjoying the process.
This has got to be one of the best things I have ever done for my face. The art to a proper skincare routine, benefits you is such way:
- It helps with break out
- Reduce dark spots and fine lines
- Removes dead skin
- Brighten/ moisturize the skin
There are so many benefits to having a good skincare routine.
Everyone have their preference but I have discovered what most twenty-something year old will find interesting. Everyone is busy and don’t have time in the morning to spend on skincare.
Trust me, I know!!
This 5 step skincare routine is easy to follow and consists of products that are beneficial to your skin. Based on your needs you will know what you need to add or subtract.
#1 Cleanser
Any skincare routine begins with a good facial cleanser.
Starting the day off with a clean canvas is essential, this is your base. It is best to start with a gentle cleanse, (this doesn’t dry out your skin) or foam cleanses (for acne-prone skin, to dry out the acne).
It’s best to test out different cleansers because they all don’t work the same. The most important thing is to cater to your skin’s needs, as you don’t want to dry your skin out or make it greasy.
A few recommendations are:
- Citaphil
- Cera Ve
- Clean & Clear
#2 Toner
I never use to do this, but I will say. A toner makes a big difference in my skincare routine.
Toners have many benefits especially to women with acne-prone skin.
A toner can make or break your look for the day, especially if you are someone who wears makeup. A toner will help minimize your pores thus reducing the use of a concealer or buffer products. After adding a toner to my routine I could see a clear difference.
Benefits to using a toner:
- It shrinks pores
- Restores skin pH (to minimize breakouts)
- Adds moisture to the skin
- Leaves the skin feeling refreshed
Toners have way more benefits than listed and will be an excellent addition to your skincare routine.
Brands to consider:
- Caudalie
- Mario Badescu
- Witch Hazel
- Garnier
#3 Serum
The next step in the skincare routine is adding a serum.
A serum is a skincare product that delivers high concentration of nutrients to the skin. Serum have a liquid appearance that is either gel-like or clear, however the consistency is lighter than a moisturizer.
Since adding a serum I notice a huge difference in how my skin looks and feel. Depending on your needs, pick a serum that will benefit you. At the moment I am using a vitamin C serum.
Benefits of a Vitamin C serum:
- Improves skin texture and collagen
- Reduces fine lines
- Improves hyperpigmentation
- Reduces inflammation and redness
- Reduce pore size
I chose a vitamin C serum for this purpose and does enjoy the benefits. The antioxidant properties mixed with the retinols improves the quality of your skin. While a serum can cost you a pretty penny, there is nothing more worth it.
Brands to consider:
- Dr Jart+:V7 antioxidant Serum
- Drunk Elephant: C-Firma vitamin C day
- Mario Badescu: Vitamin C serum
#4 Moisturizer
Step 4 is adding a moisturizer. This is one of my favorite things to do, weird?
I think not, moisturizers are the holy grail of skincare, if nothing else always moisturize. Before I got a proper moisturizer, all I would use was shea butter. After swearing by this, I had come to realize that it wasn’t working and in fact was drying my skin out.
Before I thought it was a big greasy mess on my face but didn’t understand, that you can buy moisturizers based off your skin’s needs. After doing research I have come to understand the importance of moisturizers and the benefits of adding it to my skincare routine.
Benefits of moisturizer:
- Reduce dryness
- Helps fight acne (who would have thought)
- Slows aging
- Protection from the sun
It’s important to learn about a product before you try especially a moisturizer.
Brands to consider:
- Kiehl’s
- La Mer
- Origin
- Sephora
#5 Sunscreen
This 5 step skincare routine is complete when you add sunscreen.
I recently started to add sunscreen to my routine, before I us to think, ‘it’s winter time in New York barely any sun’.
WRONG!! The sun is everywhere!
I never thought to add sunscreen before until I saw loads of celebrity Vogue videos on skincare.
Underneath your makeup, you need to protect your skin. Like all the other products on this list applying sunscreen has its benefits:
- Protection from the sun
- Helps prevent skin damage from the sun
- Reduces risk of cancer
- Keeps skin complexion even
The endless benefits doesn’t stop there.
Brands to consider:
- Supergoop
- Kate Somerville
